Political, cultural and academic figures inside and outside the Palestinian Territories have launched an online petition to express their anger at the President of the Palestinian Authoy. It already has more than 2,000 signatures.

Without being able to translate it into a political act as the Israelis have just done, the Palestinians, for their part, express that they are fed up with their leader, the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. In unequivocal terms, an online petition already signed by more than 2,000 calls for “removing Mahmoud Abbas from the leadership of the PLO, Fatah and of course the Palestinian Authority.”

This is just one manifestation among many others of the rejection of Palestinians of all stripes of a President who denied them the opportunity to voice their opposition through the ballot box, postponing elections scheduled for May.  The petition initiated by Palestinian academics from the diaspora, including the eminent geographer Salman Abu Sitta, known above all for his original project of a cartography for the right of return of Palestinian refugees, is carried by political, cultural and academic figures inside and outside the Palestinian Territories. “The Palestinian people have had enough and refuse to see their collective capacities hampered by the decisions of an elderly president while their land is usurped,” they state.
