This excellent piece by the eminent Israeli journalist, Gideon Levy (Haaretz) is a forthright reference to the institutionalized racism which characterizes both American and Israeli society. His article draws a clear parallel between the police brutality and racializing of African-Americans in the United States and that of the vicious, murderous targeting of Palestinians by Israeli police. The latter have a penchant for murdering mentally handicapped Palestinians in cold blood, as Gideon Levy explains.
The courage of Mr. Levy is commendable, as is the courage of Haaretz for permitting the truth of this stark and dark reality to see the light of day. That is more than can be said for our own ‘mainstream’ media in North America (and the political class they serve) where the truth of Israeli apartheid and its accompanying brutality and dehumanization cannot be expressed, where any attempt to render what is a legitimate and necessary criticism of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population is met with the blackmailing invective of anti-Semitism. In 1997, Nelson Mandela stated: “We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.” Free the Palestinian people!
‘Being Black in America Shouldn’t Be a Death Sentence.’ What About Being Palestinian?
Did you see the American police officers? Did you see how they choked George Floyd to death in Minneapolis? Did you see Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck, pinning him down, with Floyd begging for his life until he died five minutes later? What racist police forces they have in America, how brutal. Now Minneapolis is burning after a black citizen was executed because of his skin color. The mayor apologized, the four officers involved were fired, Chauvin was indicted. America is a cruel place for black people and its police are racist. (more…)
