Israel Is To Blame For The Violence At The Al Aqsa Mosque

Publication date : 2017-07-25

Press release

Montreal, July 25th, 2017

The second Palestinian Intifada followed Ariel Sharon’s provocative visit to the Al Aqsa Mosque. Once again, the Netanyahu government’s policy of placating extreme-right wing Jewish zealots seeking to rebuild the original temple- Solomon’s Temple – forms the undercurrent to the recent violence. It precludes the possibility of a Third Intifada. The entire area of Al Aqsa – the Mosque itself and the Dome of the Rock – is an integral part of the Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site. Israel’s security measures – especially its use of metal detectors in what is part of the sacred area of Al Aqsa - has fuelled Muslim fears that these security measures are nothing more than a pretext meant to provide Israel with the means of dividing Al Aqsa between Muslims and Jews as a first step to taking over the area entirely with an eye to rebuilding the first Jewish Temple.

Israel Is To Blame For The Violence At The Al Aqsa Mosque

PAJU denounces Israel’s continued violence against the Palestinians under occupation and its dangerous incitement of Muslim fears of an eventual Zionist takeover of the Al Aqsa area. This odious action on the part of the Netanyahu regime – bowing to the dictates of its extreme right-wing base – has the potential of turning the present Israeli-Palestinian conflict into a religious war.

A statement issued by the Arab League reads: Jerusalem is a red line that Muslims and Arabs cannot allow to be crossed… and what is happening today is an attempt to impose a new reality on the Holy city. The Israeli government is playing with fire and risking a major crisis with the Arab and Islamic world.

In a statement issued several days ago, the U.S. State department lays the “ blame for terrorism attacks committed by Palestinians and accusing the Jewish state of being largely responsible for an impasse in peace negotiations...” (http://freebeacon.com/national-security/state-dept-blames-israel-terrorism-claims-palestinians-rarely-incite-attacks/)

Not surprisingly, the Israel Lobby in the United States has reacted with its usual attempt at blackmail in order to silence criticism of Israel, calling on their servants in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to censure the State Department’s report. The truth, however, will go marching on.

What the U.S. State Department has detailed in its report is exactly what underlies the Palestinians’ violent reaction to Israeli aggression at Al Aqsa. It is Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, its brutal, institutionalized system of segregation properly known as apartheid which is the source of the violence as indicated by the State Department’s report.

END THE OCCUPATION, END ISRAEL’S APARTHEID SYSTEM, THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE!
