Those who support the Anti-BDS US legislation that required firms bidding for state contracts to certify that they aren’t participating in an economic boycott of Israel.Anti-BDS legislation is being promoted across the country at both the federal and state level, sometimes driven by dual citizens. So far, it has been adopted in at least 24 states.

Pro-Israel pressure on Georgia candidates has been known for many years.

The Israel Anti-Boycott Act could impose fines of up to $1 million and 20 years in prison for boycotting Israel, and the Combatting BDS Act, which encourages states to pass their own laws against boycotting Israel.

Those who oppose the Anti-BDS US legislation

1. Former President Jimmy Carter called for Hamas to be recognized as a legitimate political actor in the closing months of the campaign.

2. Democrat Stacey Abrams (Georgia). She voted against the Anti-BDS legislation seeing beyond the Palestinian case : the measure could set a precedent “that could prevent a 21st century campaign similar to the actions taken by civil rights fighters” such as the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s. I believe in a people power to put progressives in every seat of the South,” she said at the keynote address of the NetRoots Nation conference in Atlanta.

3. The California Democratic Party adopted a resolution at their annual convention on Wenesday February 28th 2018 to oppose federal bills intended to thwart the movement to boycott Israel.
