"End the occupation !" PAJU Vigil # 892, March 16, 2018: Actions of the "fédération du sport et de la gymnique du travail" in Palestine ( FSGT )

We have been in Palestine since 1982, the year when the FSGT signed an agreement with the OLP for the exchange of sport coaches.

This agreement consisted in sending, during school vacations, young French coaches to meet young people in the neighbourhood of Hebron.

In ten years we succeded in creating a network of gym coaches and other persons responsible for associations.

Actions of FSGT

We have been in Palestine since 1982, the year when the FSGT signed an agreement with the OLP for the exchange of sport coaches. This agreement consisted in sending, during school vacations, young French coaches to meet young people in the neighbourhood of Hebron. In ten years we succeded in creating a network of gym coaches and other persons responsible for associations.

Since 1986, we have been trying to structure sport in Palestine through the establishment of a sport federation directed by Palestinians. We worked hard to have this federation recognized by the International Olympic Comitee.

We have more projects financed by the French agency for development and we are supported by the cultural service of the French embassy in Jerusalem. For some years we have had projects structured in phases of 4 to 5 years. Our current project which will end in 2018, employs two full time persons here and one salary person in France.

With the National Union of Physical Education, we are going to train gym teachers who themselves are going to train coaches in sports associations to create ties between the disadvantaged régions of Palestine.. The idea is to train coaches everywhere and to organize meetings between them so that they can propose activities to the young people in their area.

Today, there is no territorial continuity, because of the colonies, there is no mixity between the territories since the Palestinians of the north can’t go to the south. It is this notion of space that guided us to propose activities to help the population.

We are strongly opposed to the policy led by the State of Israël and to the colonisation proposed by the sionists. We don’t want to hide it: we are pro- Palestinians, but we are not anti-Israelis.
